A Rental Operation Built Around the Journey, Not Just the Car

Roamveldt started with a straightforward idea: that renting a vehicle for a cross-state drive should involve some preparation for the road ahead, not just a set of keys.

Our Story

From Miri to the Peninsula and Back

Roamveldt was established in Miri, Sarawak in 2019 by a small group of local logistics professionals who spent years watching travellers navigate inter-city drives without adequate support. The problem wasn't a shortage of rental vehicles — it was the absence of any real preparation for the highway corridors involved.

The company's name draws from the Malay concept of wide, open terrain — a nod to the long highway stretches that define inter-city travel in Malaysia. The approach from day one was to treat each rental as a planned journey rather than a transaction.

Today Roamveldt handles compact one-way city-to-city transfers, multi-day sedan arrangements for Peninsula routes, and full-week touring packages covering three to four destinations. Each arrangement includes a pre-departure route review, properly prepared vehicles, and a handover process designed for travellers who want to arrive informed.

Our Mission

To make inter-city highway travel in Malaysia more considered and better prepared — through rental arrangements that match vehicle, route knowledge, and duration to the actual journey.

Our Values

  • Transparency in pricing and terms, before you commit
  • Practical preparation for each specific route
  • Responsiveness when travellers need support
  • Vehicles that match highway demands, not just city use

Service Area

Sarawak (Miri, Kuching, Sibu), West Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh, Johor Bahru), and selected Sabah corridors.

Operating Standards

How We Prepare Each Arrangement

Quality and safety protocols applied to every Roamveldt rental, regardless of route length.

Pre-Departure Vehicle Inspection

Each vehicle is checked for tyre condition, fluid levels, brake performance, and functioning electrics before handover. A written checklist is completed at collection.

Route Briefing Protocol

Every renter receives route notes covering key rest stops, toll structures, and any known diversions. For multi-leg trips, notes are provided per leg of the journey.

Licence and Documentation Verification

All renters are verified against their Malaysian driving licence or international permit at the time of handover, in line with JPJ requirements for rental operators.

Data Privacy Handling

Booking information is collected and stored in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). No customer data is shared with third parties beyond what is required for the rental arrangement.

Post-Trip Review Process

Vehicle condition is assessed at return alongside the renter. Any discrepancies are documented transparently, with the renter present throughout the return inspection.

Breakdown Contact Protocol

A direct contact number is provided with each rental for situations requiring roadside assistance. Renters are informed of the relevant PLUS or highway assistance channels for their route.

Inter-City Car Rental in Malaysia: The Roamveldt Approach

Highway driving between Malaysian cities presents a specific set of requirements that differ considerably from urban rentals. Routes between Miri and Kuching, or Kuala Lumpur and Penang, involve toll sections, extended travel times, and rest stop planning that benefit from some advance thought. Roamveldt's operating model is designed around these realities.

The company draws on local knowledge of Sarawak's highway network as well as the North-South Expressway and key Peninsula corridors. This translates into practical pre-trip briefings that give renters a clearer picture of what to expect on each route, rather than leaving them to piece it together from navigation apps alone.

Fleet selection is based on highway suitability. Compact vehicles used for one-way runs are chosen for fuel efficiency and ease of parking in unfamiliar city centres. Sedan-class and touring vehicles are selected for cabin comfort and stability over longer highway distances, where fatigue becomes a meaningful factor.

Roamveldt's pricing is stated per arrangement — covering the vehicle, mileage allowance, and included services. There are no automatic add-ons at collection. Renters who want to understand what they are paying for before confirming will find that information readily available during the enquiry stage.
